Many thanks to our hostess Meriwether Payne for providing a warm and birdy welcome to her property protected with a conservation easement held by the Virginia Eastern Shore Land Trust. We enjoyed traipsing through wet woodlands, fields, edges, and marsh viewing from the dock. 53 species of birds were identified, with highlights including multiple bald eagles, huge flocks of dunlin and black-bellied plovers, and songbirds such as pine warbler.

Pine warblers were singing throughout the pine forest.
