Birding at the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel

Winter waterfowl! Gannets! Gulls! Seals!

Birding Eastern Shore organizes annual trips to Island 4 of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. For 2025, our trips are scheduled for January 4, February 1, and March 1. The January 4 trip was cold and windy, but we were able to see numerous species, including Greater Scaup (2), Common Eider (3), Surf Scoter, White-winged Scoter (1), Black Scoter, Long-tailed Duck, Bufflehead, Red-breasted Merganser, Purple Sandpiper (2), Laughing Gull (2), Ring-billed Gull, American Herring Gull, Great Black-backed Gull, Lesser Black-backed Gull, Black Skimmer, Red-throated Loon, Common Loon, Northern Gannet, Great Cormorant, Double-crested Cormorant, Brown Pelican, Turkey Vulture, Bald Eagle, Bonaparte’s Gull, Horned Grebe, Harlequin Duck, and Ruddy Turnstone.
